KALW’s The Spiritual Edge Seeks A Digital Content Manager
Applications Due: August 6, 2021
The Spiritual Edge podcast seeks a part-time Digital Content Manager. The Spiritual Edge is a production of KALW Public Radio and we produce long-form, sound rich stories that explore the shifting landscape of religion and spirituality. Our website is www.spiritualedge.org. We just released our first podcast season, Sacred Steps, stories about people who lean on their values and faith as they challenge the status quo. We are looking for someone who can help with the release and distribution for the next three seasons, starting with Becoming Muslim, a limited series about Americans who convert to Islam. The Becoming Muslim season be followed by another round of Sacred Steps stories, followed by A Prayer for Salmon, a documentary series about a dam and its impact on a Native American tribe in Northern California. We are a small team and we’ve worked really hard to create this content. We are looking for someone who can be equally invested in it, and help us get these stories out into the world.
CONTENT MANAGEMENT. The Digital Content Manager will play will a crucial role in the organization of Spiritual Edge season content for broadcast and podcast release. For the podcast, you will help organize needed documents and supporting content (titles, file names, descriptions, tags, artwork, etc) for each episode. For broadcast, you will organize content (billboards, promos, headlines). For both podcast and broadcast, you will work with producers, sound engineer and photographer to make sure we have all needed assets. You will be responsible for uploading podcast content to Libsyn for each podcast episode and for updating the website with new episode materials. Familiarity with Airtable, Libsyn and Squarespace are ideal.
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT. The Digital Content Manager will also help our efforts to expand our audience. You will do this by producing, managing and overseeing content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube; helping to brainstorm, create and curate lists of people and organizations who might be interested in our content; and by helping to produce The Spiritual Edge newsletter. When appropriate, you will also oversee ad boosts for Facebook. This role requires a culturally-sensitive, deft touch and a curious nature. Familiarity with Headliner for audiograms is a plus, as well as experience with promoting podcast content before, during, and after season-end. You will collaborate and coordinate with the Executive Producer and contributors/producers as needed to get the details of episodes, social media handles and assets and credits as appropriate. We are looking for someone who can do more than simply post information. Ideally we’d like someone who is interested in encouraging benevolent, curious dialogue around religion and spirituality.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR. We are looking for candidates with excellent organization skills; experience with promoting podcast content before, during and after season-end; knowledge of how to use social media platforms to promote content, and use it to our advantage to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations; experience with Airtable, Libsyn, Headliner and Squarespace are all desired, but if you don’t know any one of these, all you need is a willingness to learn. We also prefer that candidates come with a connection with the subject of religion & spirituality. You don’t have to be religious (or spiritual), just to have an understanding that an exploration of the subject can help reveal a person’s inner core. Connections or experience working with the Muslim American and/or California Native American communities are a plus.
HOURS AND PAY. We are envisioning this as a part time, 16-hour a week position. Pay is $2,000/month. Any additional hours will be agreed upon first, and paid at a rate of $30/hour. Time period is for at least 8 months: August, 2021 through March, 2022. You can be located anywhere in the United States, but for time zone reasons, West Coast might be preferred. To apply, please send a cover letter, your resume and three references to [email protected] later than August 6. We will interview candidates the following week and hope to have someone on board by August 16. So be ready to start right away! Thanks for your interest…Judy, Executive Editor of The Spiritual Edge.
